As in a dream: in the one bar there was a jazz-quartet with Frank Sinatra singing (come fly with me, angel eyes, fever, etc.) and our favorite bartender all dressed up to the nines. A Disney-esque train-journey took us to the other bar, a bit hidden away in the docks. Django Reinhardt performed together with Chet Baker in a corner. A movie director couldn’t have portrayed it more accurately. I even became a bit over-enthused, wasn’t it, M or K?

hahaha

Waar beter te adverteren voor atheïsme dan voor de meest bekende kerk van dit land; maar er stonden ook enkele aanhangers – verkleed in priester en nonkledij – de ironie ontging mij precies even – flyers uit te delen; Omdat ik echt alle flyers die worden uitgedeeld aannemen, bezit ik nu ook mijn exemplaar;

Deze juweelontwerper is volgens mij ook van een andere planeet; maar dat is een ander verhaal;

Tweespalt/discord

Een nieuw dilemma ontvouwt zich;

Or writing in Shakespeare’s language:

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate.
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date.

Wat denkt u?
What do you think?

Ruby Tuesday

Dinsdag feestdag! - of hoe het niet altijd in het weekend feest moet zijn;

Hier bij ons op het werk liep vorig jaar alles zo goed op wieltjes (mind the pun) waardoor onze baas - een echte people manager - trakteerde op een verrassing! De verrassing heette bowlen en bleek, mits het juiste team uitgekozen, leuker dan verwacht;

Na het bowlen meteen naar Brussel, waar deze zender, enkele keren per jaar zijn adverteerders uitnodigt om hen de nieuwe programmatie voor te stellen;
Zij was hier ook graag bij geweest - i am sure - al was het maar om hem in levende lijve te zien en helaas is woensdag-werkdag, zij het nu wel met kleine oogjes en iets stiller dan gewoonlijk... maar ook dat, lieve vrienden, hoort bij feestjes - helaas;

Later op de avond feestje met alle girls (nu ja) uit mijn hometown en mijn favoriete kapper en zijn gemaal;

Helena

een Helena kapseltje; dat zei mn favoriete kapper - hij had de eerste klant die er was achter komen vragen – Helena van Sarah op tv - en hoe hij dat haat; hij doet toch altijd zijn zin met het haar van zijn klanten, zegt hij. Vandaag in de grote stad was iedereen er; de zon was er voor de eerste keer; heel wat Helena-kapseltjes gezien ook; het moet in zijn – denk ik dan;

name it

The waiting has finally been rewarded – already a week the roads in and around antwerp are a little less safe with the arrival of this new roadrunner;

but now I could need your help; my previous cars always had names – usually René, because of the number plate (RNE) but also Lidy (LDI), but now my plate starts with YDD and the suggestions (Yankie Doodle Dee, why-diddi, and so on - thank you M.) are funny, but not really a name;

So how would you name my prrreciousss (please pronounce in a gollum-esque way) ?

boys and their toys

do you know the saying 'boys and their toys'?

and do you know as well that once a boy has bought his toy, he wants to play with it as soon as possible; ripping open the box it is wrapped in, milliseconds after payment in the shop?

Did you know that the older the boys become, the more expensive their toys and the more eager to play with them?

then WHY is my new toy STILL standing at my parents driveway, already for 1 week and at least 2 more weeks to go!!!

I blame them and especially them - for being bureaucratic, slow and inefficient and I want the whole world to know…

but most of all, I want to play with my new toy…
how am I going to survive the next two weeks?
Who can help me divert my thoughts?
immediate action is needed to avoid tantrums and bad humours...

PR-Award : The Case Bruni

i think the PR-Award 2007-2008 should go to Nicolas Sarkozy, for a perfectly executed media campaign:

'the case Bruni'

Nicolas Sarkozy, known for his lady-killer skills meets Carla Bruni, they spend the night together and the worst what can happen to a ladykiller-and-president-of-france, happens; Bruni pregnant.

You immediately call your overpaid and over-zealous PR-agent, and together you come up with this devious plan ‘how to win the public opinion’

1. divorce your current wife (not much trouble, rumours of a split up have been going on for ages and she is a terrible drag anyway - too ambitious, just like that other bitch)

2. make sure the press spots you in Disneyland with this beautiful lady and fill their pages with rumours and gossip

3.make the relationship official

4. Announce on your big press conference the marriage-plans

5. Leak to the press a bit later the pregnancy and

6. pray that the public reacts well…

spuuglelijk

De eerste keer dat ik in het Nederlands blog, en ook de eerste keer dat ik me zo negatief ga uitlaten over iets; iets - in dit geval een website - en niet zomaar een website, maar eentje dat in Vlaanderen tot voor deze week de toon zette voor online nieuwsgaring en verslaggeving; overzichtelijk, duidelijk, iets te weinig multimedia, maar dat werd hen met de mantel der liefde vergeven;

dat is natuurlijk esthetisch en dus per definitie subjectief;

Stuttgart

today we are in Stuttgart, tonight in Munich; tour-life begins to fall into a sort of routine; in my - and my roommate's case that is:

- first thing in the morning, despite all good intentions : missing breakfast

- next, hurrying to the lobby with all the suitcases packed again to take our tourbus to the next city

- checking in

- going to the concert-arena - eating - playing Uno - show - back to the hotel - drinking and having a laugh on somebody's hotelroom - bed and then all over again...

as from tomorrow we'll be in Munich, where we will stay untill Sunday, so time to relax and enjoy and get ready for all the christmas-markets, atmosphere, gluhwein and so on...

and thanks to Jan, finally a picture as well...

on tour

well, a quick item to say that i will be on tour for two weeks with the Proms;

i can finally use the rock'n roll cliché 'what day is it today? saturday? than this must Hamburg' :-)

if every hotel has free internet as this one (which i very much doubt) i will keep you posted about activities here, but chances are that this blog will be very silent untill mid-december...

do it!!

I have been longing to go to a descent wedding for years and years now... i don't know about you, but in my circle of friends, the word 'wedding' seem to be banished...

most of my friends have all items checked on the tickbox; a 'weddable' age (say 25-30), a job, a partner (rather necessary i know), a house of their own, a dog, no kids (yet)... but no; no marriages since almost three years now...

that is untill yesterday, a friend (maybe out of sheer pity) invited me to go with her to her sisters wedding.... and yes, finally, that was a wedding as i expect it to be... the full works: dressed up in ceremonial dress, the church, the crying, the sweet music, reception, castle, beautiful bride, champagne, dinner, dancing... nice!

thank you C for inviting me, and if you read this and you are one of those friends of mine : GET MARRIED!!!!

Mika

This week I went to see Mika! And that was amazing!
And i have never seen such an enthusiastic crowd cheering, shouting and enjoying themselves...

(I heard a great quote about crowds on a documentary yesterday on tv ‘crowds are like obeying ladies, who want to be treated that way’ – the quote came from H. but I really don’t want to come across as a fan of this person…)

Mika was full of energy, entertaining and of course brought with him all his songs, which I know, since this summer by heart; I had put away the cd the last month or two, because, since they are popsongs, they tend to not to last too long (with me at least) so I had to ‘save’ his music a bit… it made the gig much more thrilling I must say! The show was a celebration to pop-music, a camp and kitch party as it should be!

Mini-mini

Mini Antwerp presented today to his customers and potential customers its latest model, the Mini Clubman; Based on the old version from the fifties, this new model has a special backdoor, opening sideways from the middle;

So when you think about Mini, in a marketing point of view, you think what? fashion, stylish, modern, young, trendy, innovative... so one would expect for an event like this at least some fancy animation, maybe unique give-aways, celebrities, stylish hosts, surprises, acts... Especially when they created a very fancy website to subscribe to this 'invites-only' event

none of this unfortunately; a boring start-of-a-party atmosphere, two drink-coupons, and three mini's on display next to the dancefloor... a mini party...

6.11.07

bubbly

I went to see a concert of a great singer last Monday night; charming, very talented, very very funny and a perfect crowd-pleaser; entertainment as it should be; accompanied by a big band, piano, bass, drums… Bringing the swing-standards, swing adaptations of famous songs and a few of his own hits; romantic, fun, swinging, poppy, ...

At times the concert looked more like a stand-up comedy routine –and a damn good one for that matter; This combination of humor and great music made this concert so worthwhile; an artist who is no doubt serious about his music but who can also make fun of himself; worth to check this cool Canadian guy out: Michael Bublé;

Waffles

Every year on the first of November, my grandmother bakes waffles for the entire family; made with fresh milk, straight from my grandmother's neighbours cows and fresh butter.... myummie!
and as long as i can remember the sugar has been in these very typical tupperware boxes!
